Ok, so...Nintendo recently came out with a new game console the Wii (pronounced wee), and already they are making improvements on it. The Wii is the smallest home unit up-to-date and is distinctively recognized by it's wireless controller which can be used as a hand-held pointing device, it also detects motion and rotation in 3 dimensions.
With that in mind, Nintendo has just announced that it will now have "Wii news", a news channel for the Wii game console. The channel will allow gamers to take a break and watch the news without turning off their game consoles.
This is a free feature, (as described on this website ) will list current top stories around the world. A virtual 3D globe will show where in the world the news is happening. Icons in 3D map will allow gamers to view local news by going to the icon of their city.
Nintendo expects this new technology to intrigue a crowd (gamers) who normally wouldn't turn on the news after gaming.-------
Gamers are not really news people! I think that's why they stick to the life of virtual reality and Role Playing Games. I think it's a good idea to try to target a new group of people but I also think it's a waste of money. They are going to make all headline news around the world accessible through the Wii? I don't know about this. I played three rounds of boxing when I was home for Christmas (my brother had one) and I was so tired I had to sit down. I just turned it off and got some water, I didn't want to leave it on, because I would've got "hooked" again and my muscles would've been sore (well more sore, than they already were) if there was a news channel on the Wii, when I played that would've been the last thing I would think of doing!

I agree. I mean what possible news could they have about the new gaming console? Bad idea Nintendo. I also think the Wii could be a little better as far as the wireless remote thing goes. I'm no gamer but I don't think I'd want to be holding a remote in my hand while slashing dragons and riding Yoshi. They should make some kind of wristband controller. Lol!
You said it exactly. Gamers really aren't real world news people. This is a big risk to add such a feature that I'm sure is costly to produce, considering there probably aren't many childlike game playing people that are going to be so interested in news that they watch it while playing video games. That is the last thing they are thinking of. It's a nice try to get those people to pay more attention to the news going on around them, but it's too much technology to mess around with. Keep video games simple, since they are a pass-time for fun when you want to be lazy. The wireless remote is a smart idea.

I agree. I think that people who play video games don't really follow the news, or really care which is why they are caught up in that. I think they need to see who their target audience is, and then decide if it is going to be benefical, to put that new console out. In my opinion I think that it is going to be a waste of money, and I cannot really see them turning off the game to watch some news update. They need to think realistically here. I mean give me a break. My brother also has one and it is very addicting. He plays it non-stop, and I must say that I am intrigued by it myself. There has got to be another way for it to be easier to play with though. To me its cool, but get's very old quick. One more thing why are they trying to come up with new things when they alreay make enough money from the system cost, and the games for it??
