Boston Needs to Relax!

Cartoon Network airs "Adult Swim" also known as late night adult entertainment targeting an 18-40 year old crowd.
They have recently began nationally promoting a new show called "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" which revolves around giant milkshakes, super intelligent french fries and large chunks of meat.
With that in mind, massive panic and severe traffic congestion occurred in Boston because electronic signs of Mooninites (characters from the show) were thought to contain explosives!
Police arrested 2 performance artists/marketing agents from Turner Broadcasting (owner of Cartoon Network and Aqua Teen Hunger Force and parent company of CNN) allegedly connected with the electronic sign of a middle-finger waving moon man reported to have triggered numerous bomb scares around Boston. Turner Broadcasting tried explaining that it was only to promote the show but Boston officials felt that the bomb scares were inappropriate and should have been put to a stop sooner.
The 2 men are being charged with placing a hoax device in a way that results in panic as well as one count of disorderly conduct. The hoax charge is a felony! To read more see this site

Okay, that's it, society has become far too sensitive! I agree that the middle finger guy was a little inappropriate, but these 2 men don't deserve a felony for trying to promote a TV show! I personally think a little martian man waving his middle finger on an electric sign is hilarious and if I saw that I would definitely tune in!
I find it really ridiculous that Boston would take a small cartoon sign so literally and be seriously threatened. If it was a real bomb scare, they wouldn't openly display it around different cities. What kind of city closes down and goes into massive panic over a animated sign, come on!
I think disorderly conduct could be a relevant charge based on the middle finger martian dude, but other than this case when has there ever been a charge of placing a hoax device in a way that results in panic, I mean that sounds made up just to charge these 2 artists.
I talked to my cousin that works for an engineering consulting firm in downtown area of Boston immediately after reading this article and asked her what was the deal with this thing. She told me that the signs talked, and sounded like a computer voice (very choppy and monotoned) and said something along the lines of I'm the future, I'm in the computer, I could blow you, me, all of us up! She said it was creepy, but the public reacted way to seriously! I guess that 's what society is coming to, we cant even promote a TV show with adult comedy without everyone thinking it terrorism!

Ha thats quite funny. Ever since 9-11 everything scares people. People are watching their backs left and right fearing some kind of attack again. Anything could be disguised as a bomb. I can understand them being a bit freaked out but not to the extent that Boston did. There is absolutely no sense in them arresting these people for trying to promote a late night TV show. Personally if i saw that sign I'd totally give the show at least one shot, matter of fact I think i will.

I agree with your point of view. When I heard that on the M.J. in the Morning show one day, I was laughing. How do you turn a little robot toy sign into a terrorist threat? Out world is just so paranoid about everything these days...as you said before we can't even promote a tv show without people thinking they are going to die.
